Several reasons not to believe in ghosts

Modern television and cinema are trying to convince us of the existence of the supernatural. Vampires, werewolves, witches, ghosts and other vermin from the stories of science fiction writers are transferred not only to TV screens, but also into our consciousness.
Some people on the mainstream wave just fall in love with pale-faced fanged heroes, while others, more impressively, begin to be even more afraid of flashing lights, incomprehensible sounds and darkness.
In 2005, the Gallup Institute conducted a survey among residents of America, as a result of which it turned out that 37% of them believe in haunted houses and 47% believe in poltergeist. Are the influence of films in the “horror” genre so strong that people, forgetting about a rational explanation for everything unusual, prefer to be afraid of everything supernatural? Let’s take a look at this evil, not through the prism of our imagination, but through the eyes of experienced scientists.
Spiritist board from the series “Charmed” firmly crashed into the minds of mystic lovers. If you believe the myths, then through the miracle board, covered with letters and numbers, you can contact the spirit who will answer all the questions asked.
Many dreamed in such a way to get in touch with the other world, and some even from the improvised cartons and markers created a prototype of the board and were associated with the spirit, for example, of Pushkin. How successful – history is silent. But in the middle of the XIX century there was a different attitude to the seance. People queued up in order to get in touch with their dead relatives.
In addition to the spiritualistic board, another method was common. A group of people sat near the table and laid their hands on it, after which someone contacted a spirit who could move or even knock back the table. You say nonsense? The trouble is that the table really started to move, and the crowd nervously swallowed, fainted or started yelling.
Of course, we must pay tribute to the charlatans, who at that time profited from human stupidity and hypersensitivity. But were all encounters with spirits someone’s deception? Michael Faraday, a famous physicist, tried to find the answer to this question.
During the experiment, it became clear that the tables move because of the ideomotor effect, that is, the power of suggestion causes the participants’ muscles to move without the intervention of consciousness. People wanted to see a moving tablet or table, and they got it.
Have you ever seen someone else’s shadow, but not human, and not even on a sunny day? Many claim that they have seen. In old photos, behind the backs of friends, outside the windows of your own home. Some believe that this is only a hallucination, while others sincerely believe that it is none other than a demon, or the astral body. However, some researchers may share a more shocking story.
Swiss scientists, working with a patient who had epilepsy, resorted to the method of electrical stimulation. This lasted until the patient informed them of the existence of a certain shadow, which sat behind her and copied her movements.
According to her, when she sat down, the shadow sat down after her, when she leaned over and wrapped her arms around her knees, the shadow twisted around her body and held her. Then the doctors asked the woman to take a card and read the word written on it. But when she tried to take it, the shadow snatched the card from her hands.
The fact is that scientists, by stimulating the left temporal-parietal node of the brain, which is responsible for the human perception of themselves, accidentally “turned off” the patient’s ability to perceive their own body, which led to the appearance of a shadow copying each of its actions.
Why bother with all sorts of seances, if you can clear your mind and allow some cosmic consciousness or spirit to enter your body and give answers to all questions? Such a method – “tunneling” was a rather common way in ancient times to reach the spiritual world. Many current psychics draw (they say they draw) information about various mystical events in this way.
There are many charlatans talking to spirits, but what about people who sincerely believe in what they are doing? No, they do not need to seek help from a psychologist. It’s all about automatism –
altered state of consciousness, that is, people express their thoughts, not realizing that in fact they belong to themselves.
The human brain during the process of purification of the mind is able to give out incredible ideas and images on the verge of complete nonsense, and the shaman (psychic, etc.) at this moment thinks that this is some kind of spirit that came into contact with him.
How not to confuse infrasound with a ghost? Easy, just pay attention to the fact that infrasound in nature exists, but ghosts do not. Researcher Vick Tandy once had a ghost. This worried him, yet ghosts have no place in the laboratory.
